Video diary vs VlogĪ video diary kind of reminds me of doing a vlog. However, as time passes and children grow up (and parents get busier), recording videos becomes a luxury rather than a fun family activity. Speaking of having a baby, parents are pretty good at taking photos and filming their children – and it seems they enjoy it a lot! This way, they also happen to capture their own emotions, not simply the funny stuff their kids do. What better way to remember these events than recording a diary entry? We usually take photos in order to capture the emotions of ourselves and those around us. It's perfect for life changes – we all go through these huge life events, such as graduating, getting a new job, moving to a new town, having a baby, etc. And, finally, you are the one who will watch the final product. The good news is that you can be all four of them: you can think about what to say, how to sit, what to wear, where to look. It's fun and creative – there are roughly 4 categories of persons to consider when talking about the video format: the actor/narrator, the director, the scriptwriter and the viewer/audience.It's more vivid – a video is essentially a collection of live images that induce certain feelings and ideas. It's personalised – the main thing about a video diary is your face (or not) – you are free to film yourself or your surroundings. It's fast and easy – you can use your laptop or mobile phone, you don't have to carry pen and paper everywhere. Why should you consider a video diary (as compared to a traditional one)? Finally, having to use my phone for it would be quite time-consuming (which means even more screen time). For me, it wouldn't really work – it's not so magical (you don't see how your hand is transforming the paper), it's highly probable that I create an entry or two and then forget about it. ![]() What about mobile app diaries? I never really considered having one. I think that this truly helped me understand myself and feel less lonely at some times. Topics that I wrote about in my diary were studying abroad, deciding what to do after University, analysing my strengths and interests, working out what I want to achieve in my life. Plus, I always found it interesting to reread old entries and have a good laugh/cry at the things I wrote. The biggest benefit for me was getting more clarity for the way I feel and behave. I have personally kept a pen-and-paper diary for a long time – in some periods more actively than in others. Interestingly, there is now a YouTube video diary series developed by Every Media in partnership with the Anne Frank House. For example, this is how the story of Anne Frank has reached us. Many great people have kept diaries to record their observations of nature, life and society. One should always have something sensational to read in the train. Some of the first diaries are stated to have existed in the Roman Empire, Middle East and East Asia. ➡️ What does a diary have to do with it? Have you kept a diary?Īs an 'autobiographical writing' with a rich history, a diary has the main purpose to keep a record of the writer's reflections, of the 'wonderful secrets' of life (Oscar Wilde, The Importance of Being Earnest). We rarely sit down and purposefully turn our attention inward. In the 21st century, browsing the Internet has become our favourite pastime. We are often so focused on tasks at work, getting kids from school, or cooking dinner. ![]() 'But.don't I do this every day?!', you will ask. ![]() Imagine if you could have a real honest conversation with yourself, listen to what YOU have to say.
